-------------- PROBLEM: ---------------
THE BELOW PROBLEM HAS BEEN FIXED, BUT VERY RARELY THE SAME THING HAPPENS.
THEREFORE, IT IS STILL SUGGESTED YOU USE THIS BATCH FILE, JUST IN CASE.
Many people, but not all, have experienced the loss of all or some of their
configuration information, including the songs they had queued for download,
people they added to their "list", rooms they set to "autojoin", people they
banned and/or ignored, Etc...
Nir is presently working on the problem, but until it is fixed, You can make
use of this batchfile, which will backup all of the SoulSeek configuration
files by adding them to a ZIP file, and storing it in your root directory C:\
Included are two shortcuts, which you can place on your desktop. All you have
to do to backup or restore your files is to click on the appropriate shortcut,
which makes backing up and restoring extremely easy to do.
The hardest part is remembering to do it often.
------------ QUICK RUNDOWN: -----------
1) Download the zipped distribution file via the above link.
2) Open the zipped file with WinZip, and extract the files in it to the root
of your C Drive -> C:\ (not to any subfolder on the C Drive).
3) Cut the two included shortcuts, and paste them onto your desktop.
4) Use the appropriate shortcut to either backup, or restore, by clicking on
it. Included is a README.TXT file, which is basically this same information.
------------ INSTRUCTIONS: ------------
First of all, for this batchfile to work as designed, you will need to have
both WinZip and SoulSeek installed into their default locations:
C:\Program Files\WinZip\
&
C:\Program Files\SoulSeek\
Other language versions of Windows sometimes use a different folder name for
their default program installation folder. If your default location is
anything other than the above shown folders, than you will have to edit the
batchfile to use the folder your computer uses, or you won't be able to use it.
More than likely, they will be installed there, since those are the default
installtion directories/folders for each program.
Also, you will need to download and install the WinZip "Command Line" Add-On,
which is available from their website at this address:
http://www.winzip.com/wzcline.htm
Make sure when you install the add-on, that you also install it into the
default location, which is the same folder where WinZip is installed.
After the above conditions are met, unzip the contents of the downloaded ZIP
file to the root of your C:\ drive. Make sure not to copy it into any
subfolders though. It needs to be in the root directory for the shortcuts
to be able to find it. If you don't know what the root directory is, it is
the C Drive, but at the bottom of the directory tree (root), meaning, not in
any folders off of the C Drive.
For example, everyone most likely has a "Program Files" folder off of their
C Drive, which would look like this: C:\Program Files\
C:\ is the root; the beginning drive of which all other folders on the
C Drive are placed, such as the "Program Files" folder.
Now, copy both of the shortcuts ("Backup SoulSeek Settings" & "Restore
SoulSeek Settings") to your desktop for easy access. These are what you
will use to backup and restore your SoulSeek configuration files.
REMEMBER TO CONSTANTLY BACKUP YOUR CONFIGURATION FILES, as you never know
when you might get stricken with the bug that deletes all of your SoulSeek
configuration settings.
* After you've received a few files that you had queued, backup!
* Whenever you queue up a bunch of new files, backup!
* Whenever you've autojoined new rooms, backup!
* Whenever you've "ignored" or "blocked" certain users, backup!
* Whenever you've added or deleted people to your "List", backup!
Otherwise, when you restore the backed up configuration files, everything
will be as it was at the time you backed them up, including all the queued
files you had at the time, even if you've already received them since the
time when you last backed up the configuration files, Etc...
